Soleyne's Artist Participation Guidelines

Welcome to Soleyne's Artist Participation Guidelines

Soleyne is unlike any other online gallery you may be familiar with, so we encourage you to read this page carefully. The few minutes it will take to read these guidelines will clarify our unique standing..

** If you have arrived here via an invitation, please follow the link below (after reading this page, please) .

If you have been invited to join us, this is no accident!  Our staff has been scouring the web searching for artists of your accomplishment - we do NO blanket mailings or bulk invitations. If you have been invited, we have seen and judged your work to be of a caliber that we believe would enhance Soleyne and contribute to success for both you and our site.

** If you have not received an invitation to join Soleyne as an exhibiting/selling artist and would like to, please send a short email with links for us to view some of your work online. We will review your request and get back to you within 72 hours. Send your request to: josh@soleyne.com.

Soleyne Gallery has been modeled after the fine art/high craft galleries you find in vibrant, upscale communities across the US. We are intentionally creating an online gallery with exceptional, hand-chosen artists and works as one would find in such a trust-worthy brick and mortar gallery, but with the convenience, substantially increased selection and excellent value that a buy-direct-from-the-artist online venue can offer.

Unlike other online art marketing sites to date, Soleyne is an invitation-only venue with a defined membership cap. We are a strictly juried site that asks of the posting artists a distinct level of attention to detail to participate. Soleyne also has very high standards regarding the quality and presentation of the artwork, as well as the professionalism of the selling artists.

Like a brick and mortar gallery, Soleyne has limited its "shelf space" with the specific intention of creating a "premium" selection.  Instead of the massive jumble that other popular art and handmade sites present to the quickly confused and overwhelmed buying public, Soleyne's presentation and selections are clean, clear and limited enough to not overload the prospective clients sensibilities.

What Soleyne will do for its associate Artists:

Soleyne
's market demographic is a middle to upper income clientele. All our networking, online linking and real-world promotions will be aimed at clients who have an appreciation of art, artistic goods, and art decor. These clients or customers also have a discerning taste and a budget to purchase quality, one of a kind, artist-created works.

Also unlike other sites you may have experienced, we're not leaving you to "fend for yourself".  Of course we need all our artists to do all the smart steps of linking and driving traffic to their stores on Soleyne - but it does not end there.  We are committing  resources to promoting the reputation and standing of Soleyne as the premier online art/high craft source for discerning buyers, collectors and designers both online and in print advertising.

Soleyne's staff and resources include real world expertise in marketing art and high crafts as well as internet saavy developers ready and able to capture the ever-increasing use of the internet for the sale of art. Combining these skills in one team has been the dream-child of Ms. Susan Moberg, the creator of Soleyne.  As an artist herself, it is her exacting standards and passion for the arts and for the artists that has manifested the dynamic Soleyne concept.

As explained below, there are currently (at least until 2011) no additional fees to post your artworks on Soleyne if invited. Also, artists invited and joining us between now and 2011 will be levied a reduced sales percentage/commission to further encourage participation (details below).

Unlike many of your other online art site choices, we succeed when you succeed - if we do not bring qualified buyers to the site to view and purchase your work, we also do not benefit. We are 100% committed to your success and ours.

What Soleyne asks from associate Artists:

Soleyne
's staff is, in every moment (literally!) working to create and maintain a dynamic and alive "shape" to the Soleyne online experience - something different and more dependably high-quality that any other such venue to date.

In keeping with those ends, and in return for our commitments that go well beyond other art selling sites, these are the conditions we ask of the artists participating:

* Work approved for Soleyne Gallery will be solely our choice based on the myriad of factors that we consider for the total presentation of the gallery. Work substantially different than what you first present to us for review (the initial site postings submitted for our approval) will also have to be submitted for review.

A SPECIAL NOTE ON WALL ART:

Because there is simply so much wall art - oils, watercolors, and photography in particular, Soleyne must apply especially stringent  standards as to what is accepted on the site for presentation.  Please understand that we mean to represent a wide variety of mediums.  This is a Soleyne strength since there are innumerable sites flooding the internet for wall and image art.  We look for those wall artists who have something unique and extraordinary to say in their works, and in the choice of their subject matter.

* You must maintain a MINIMUM of 5 listings  and a MAXIMUM of 35 listings of your approved work in your shop at all times. If, after a sale or sales, your postings drop below 5 pieces of a specific medium that you have been approved to sell on Soleyne, please replenish ASAP (within 5 days). If you are approved for 2 or 3 different styles or mediums, then the minimum number of listings that need be posted in your shop for each approved medium is 5. Selection is of the  utmost importance in effective selling of your artwork!

* When approved, you will be able to set up your shop. We will require that all photography of artworks be *excellent* (review our photography help page here), written descriptions and copy must include adequate information regarding the works characteristics (dimensions, weight if important, special shipping conditions). In short, each work must be presented with all the information necessary for a buyer to comfortably make an immediate buying decision.

* Each artist participating on Soleyne must pledge to maintain the highest levels of professionalism in their conduct with clients.  Timely respectful communications, prompt insured shipping, and delivery of *exactly* what was represented in the artist's posting is expected. Each artist will also be required to agree to and adhere to Soleyne's site-wide published return policy - review our return policy here.

Costs to sell on Soleyne:

Soleyne is asking very modest fees as the host for your artwork sales and the promoter of this dynamic venue.  The fee structure is simple - for individual item sales under $1000- 8%, from $1001 to $2500 - 6.5% and from $2501 and up - 5%.  This will be billed to the artist's credit card of record at the end of each calendar month.

**NOTE ON FEES: Until 2011, reduced fee structures are in place - individual items under $1000- 5%, from $1000 to $2500 - 4% and from $2500 and up - 3.5%.

* Soleyne allows two distinct ways of remitting commissions:

     I) (Preferred) An artist can keep a credit card of record at the time of signup.  If a seller opts for this choice, none of the personal information they provide is contained within Soleyne.  The information inputted goes directly to our commerce provider.  No Soleyne employee, including our programmers, can access, view or decipher what has been provided by the seller as it is encrypted.  Our outside provider is CDG Commerce/Quantum Gateway who can ensure our members with the most secure technology available for protection of such information.  On the last business day of each calendar month, a sales record for that month will be sent via email to the seller's email account on record.  This email will clearly indicate what sales that seller had that month, a description of each item, the date of the sale, the amount of the sale and the total commission due to Soleyne.  The said commission amount will then be debited from the credit card of record.

II) If an artist wishes to not register a credit card through our system, Soleyne will allow them to remit direct payment.  For all intents and purposes, the selection of this method is based on an honor system.  As with option I, on the last business day of each calendar month, a sales record for that month will be sent via email to the artist's email account of record.  This email will clearly indicate what sales the artist had that month, a description of each item, the date of the sale, the amount of the sale and the total commission due to Soleyne.  In addition, the email will provide an invoice to the artist for the said amount of the commission due.  The artist will have 30 days from the date of the email to remit payment.  If the artist does not meet this condition, the Soleyne panel will investigate the potential reasons so as to make a sound decision regarding whether to allow the artist to continue to participate in our Gallery.  Payment submissions will be mailed to:

Soleyne, 157 Putnam Avenue, Freeport, New York 11520      Attention: accounts receivable

* We insist that an artist "play fair" with the sales of their work from our site.  Artists found to be working around Soleyne's listed percentage commission will be terminated immediately. We, too, must produce revenue to maintain, improve and promote Soleyne as the premier venue that it is.  Our % is drastically lower than any brick and mortar gallery equivalent. Clearly in these times, both artists and buyers of art seek fair and reasonable value in their transactions. Soleyne will facilitate exactly that quality of exchange.

**Artists are not to post links of solicitations of any kind to any other selling sites or to an outside website anywhere in their Soleyne presentation. The listing of the artist's personal website is the only outside link allowed and may only appear on the "bio" page.

We offer you the highest quality exposure from Soleyne's ever growing fine reputation.  We require that these guidelines be met so we can always be working together with you towards that end.

* Soleyne will continually increase its features and functionality and by 2011, we will very likely be creating an "affiliate" membership that will entail a modest fee structure. Soleyne artists will be duly informed and given ample time and consideration when these changes are made. Until that time, Soleyne is operating at the aforementioned reduced commission on sales only. We are committed to maintaining Soleyne at the highest standards of operation and performance.
