Stone Sculptor's bio:

I am a self taught stone sculptor from Portland, Oregon. Most of my work is somewhat classical in nature and of the human form. I do not try to produce perfect anatomy or copy any other traditions in sculpture. I put a lot of effort in to working with each new stone on its own terms, based upon its size, weight, color, texture and tendency to cut. My pieces literally evolve from that dialogue as roughed out forms of one shape or another which I then work to refine. I am greatly influenced by history and some famous and not so famous sculptors of times gone by. I am working on pieces now inspired from 12th Century Cathedral works in Autun, France that I think will finally find a way to bind modern art with some of the more sophisticated old world traditions.
